Misanthropy…And other big words from Catholics

But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. (1 Corinthians 2:14)

“Humans mucked everything up. But Christ is fixing it.” said one particular Catholic believer on a particular blog…

I could hear my discernment alarms buzzing in my head. I knew something was amiss.

Are we really “good”? Do we really tout that we are fine in the eyes of God? Let’s not kid ourselves. In the presence of God, the Almighty Holy One, we are nothing to sneeze at. The Bible is very clear of the state that Mankind is in.

Biblically speaking, the unbeliever is completely and totally affected by sin in every area of his being: heart, soul, mind, body, emotions, etc. In this sense he is desperately wicked (though not all unbelievers are as bad as they can be in the manifestation of that wickedness). This is why the Bible says that man is deceitful (Jer. 17:9), full of evil (Mark 7:21-23), loves darkness rather than light (John 3:19), does not seek for God (Rom. 3:10-12), is ungodly (Rom. 5:6), dead in his sins (Eph. 2:1), by nature a child of wrath (Eph. 2:3), cannot understand spiritual things (1 Cor. 2:14), and is a slave of sin (Rom. 6:16-20).

We are evil when we compare ourselves with the Holiness of God. For it will be as such when we stand before Him in the final judgment. That will be all that matters.

Now for the Good News.

Jesus Christ took on Sin…and God, recognizing that sin, poured His Wrath onto His Son in our place so that we wouldn’t have to.

Even more Good News is this…We died with Christ on the Cross.

For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. (Colossians 3:3)

Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, (Romans 6:8)

Even better News is our sin was nailed on the Cross with Him…

“having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.” (Colossians 2:14)

So, what does that mean to the Believer? EVERYTHING!

That means all my sin (past, present, and future) is paid for and taken care of on the Cross. I can now live in freedom knowing that nothing can separate me from the Love of Christ. Why? Because the Work of Jesus Christ on the Cross was complete and satisfied by God.

Therefore, when someone says Christ is still “fixing” it…I say, by no means. The work is complete and it is Christ in us who is the only good thing we have in us.

I think the words of Paul the apostle are appropriate here:

“For the good that I wish, I do not do; but I practice the very evil that I do not wish. 20 But if I am doing the very thing I do not wish, I am no longer the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me. 21 I find then the principle that evil is present in me, the one who wishes to do good. 22 For I joyfully concur with the law of God in the inner man, 23 but I see a different law in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind, and making me a prisoner of the law of sin which is in my members. 24 Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death? 25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, on the one hand I myself with my mind am serving the law of God, but on the other, with my flesh the law of sin,” (Romans 7:19-25).
